At an event in Tokyo, Sony’s Kunimasa Suzuki unveiled two tablet devices, NOW tentatively codenamed S1 and S2 .
All the great things you know from Sony, now in a tablet. Both tablet devices from Sony will feature the latest Android 3.0 (Honeycomb) as their operating system and can connect to WiFi hotspots and cellular networks.
With an ergonomic design that fits comfortably in your hand, and a vibrant TruBlack™ display that’s easy on the eyes, enjoy a truly optimized tablet that’s responsive and intuitive Featuring display and an ergonomically contoured design, you will get long-lasting, handheld comfort—plus the perfect angle for tabletop touch-typing.
The first tablet, the S1, comes with a 9.4 inch touch screen and has been designed for rich media entertainment and web browsing. The tablet has been designed to give feel of a folded magazine or a newspaper.
The second tablet, the S2, comes with a unique clamshell design that combines both rich media entertainment and mobile communications. The tablet also features two 5.5-inch touch screen, poised like the ones found on Nintendo DS.
With built-in infrared and DLNA® technologies, you can use this tablet as a universal remote to control your compatible TV and a variety of home entertainment devices, stream music to DLNA-enabled wireless speakers or even “throw” personal content like photos and videos to your TV to view on the big screen1. Adjust the volume, change channels or scan a playlist for the perfect song—it’s all possible and easier than ever with this new Sony Tablet.
Sony has put together some of the best talents drawn from the VAIO, Reader, PlayStation, and Sony Ericsson team. The VAIO group is on the task right now, though the tablet may not come with a VAIO branding when launched.
The S1 ,S2 will have within it a Tegra 2 processor and will include familiar components, such as cameras along the front and the back as well as an USB port. another unique aspect with the S1 tablet is its integration with Sony’s very own Qriocity content store that has on offer almost everything that one might need. these include music, videos, games, and e-books.
Sony, however, have not disclosed details about its pricing or specific launch dates of the devices yet. But, it did gave a hint that this tablet will be launched worldwide from the fall.
